beautiful ceramics

Emily Oster

When I think of gorgeously styled kitchens (yes this is something that crosses my mind), I envision open shelves featuring beautiful ceramics. Ceramics are something I haven't gotten into collecting (yet) but they are for sure on my list of wants. Form, function and aesthetics - they have it all in just one small tumbler or plate.

Below are three artisans creating some amazing ceramics definitely worth checking out.

Studio Joo

Studio Joo by Elaine Tian is based in Brooklyn and combines Tian background in both graphic design and sculpture. The collection is comprised mostly of porcelain vessels and light fixtures and features a soft and delicate color palette applied to interesting but still functional forms.

Studio One Suite

Studio One Suite represents the work of Lindsay Emery - a North Carolina based artist specializing in small batch ceramics with limited editions. With many of her pieces having gold accents, the current collection is light, bright and makes me think of Spring.

Arrow + Sage

Arrow + Sage is another North Carolina based studio created and run by ceramicist Anna Eaves. A self taught potter with a background in photography and fine arts, Eaves pieces are simple and classic in both design and finish.

deVOL

Emily Oster

If I had to make a top ten list of kitchen design companies/designers, deVOL would definitely be at the top of my list.  A 25 year old company based in Leicestershire, England, deVOL creates the most amazing handcrafted cabinetry. Simple and understated their emphasis is on timelessness and quality. They have four "kitchen ranges" - Shaker, Classic, Air and the most recent line - Sebastian Cox. They also offer bathroom cabinetry, home accessories, stone flooring, sinks and faucets as well as countertops.

All their cabinetry pieces feature mortise and tenon joints and are made completely of real wood - no particle board or MDF. Cabinets are available in one of the line's standard colors or a custom selection for an additional charge.

The Shaker is perhaps their most popular range as it is offered in modular pieces keeping prices lower than their other lines.

The Classic range is deVOL's truly bespoke option with any size and any finish available. Working with their design professionals, each element is custom specified and created to work in their client's space.

The Air is their take on a contemporary retro style.

And the last option, Sebastian Cox, is the range born out of a collaboration with its namesake - a master designer and woodworker. DeVOL describes this line as "urban rustic".

Have a great weekend everyone!

wood crates

Emily Oster

I am all for easy storage solutions which is why I like the idea of wood crates. Reusable, functional and timeless in their design, they can be used for all sorts of things from toys and books to pantry items. I have even seen a few crafty furniture items created from them - very Joanna Gaines.

You have to be careful that they don't be become too kitschy or country which is why I think they work best when contrasted with more modern decor. I also think you have to use good solid and well made crates - not the ones usually sold at craft stores that are flimsy and made with staples. Below are some stylish examples of wood crates put to good use.
