ming/kang tables
Emily Oster
So I have always referred to this type of table as a Ming Dynasty table. However, I think they might actually be classified as kang tables. According to about home "kang tables are a type of Chinese furniture; a long low table, usually rectangular, typically with short cabriole or elephant-trunk legs and paw or claw feet; often made of a single piece of wood originally meant to be place on a kang, a raised three-walled platform used for sleeping or relax; dating back to the third century BC, it flourished in the Ming Dynasty (1386-1644) and continued into the Qing Dynasty (1644 - 1911), growing increasingly ornate" (about home). Used as cocktail tables, I love this style particularly in raw wood used in a more informal setting. Although they work equally great lacquered in a more formal living room. An added bonus is that Etsy and Ebay have tons listed so you can often find one that is easy on the budget. See below for a few favorites.
