carpentry

Emily Oster

Yesterday, at work we had a meeting with our finish carpenter. Every time I have the opportunity to talk with him I become more in awe of his amazing skills and craft. He is eager, creative and has the sort of passion for his work that is immediately apparent and rather contagious. I left the meeting feeling inspired and dreaming of custom carpentry projects. The first item on my list which I am actually half serious about following through with is a custom spindle bed. Months ago I posted about my love for spindle beds and since then the love has turned into an obsession. I really must have one - maybe for my birthday....Anyways being a renter custom carpentry work really doesn't make sense so I will just have to wait on the rest of the list. Till then I will swoon over examples like these of beautiful carpentry work (note I use the term carpentry rather generally and probably not correctly but for me it means anyone who is skilled working with wood).

st. patrick's day green

Emily Oster

My apologize for the late post today. This week is kicking my butt! As such I am very much looking forward to the weekend not only to catch my breath but because its St. Patrick's Day! For the past few years, I have been unable to mark the beloved holiday of my ancestors (school, Pilates training, travel etc. have gotten in the way). So this year I sort of want to go all out - all right not really but we do plan on making an Irish themed feast and maybe even go to the local parade. In anticipation of the celebration, here are some green themed home images. Any readers have big plans for the holiday? Or good Irish themed recipes to share?

st. louis craigslist part 4

Emily Oster

I have been wanting to do another Craigslist post for a while but its been sort of slim pickings until recently. See below for some current finds and inspiration images!

This set is overpriced although if it is indeed lacquered than its a real find. I like both the chairs and the table but would separate them. The chairs would look great in a more formal dining room mixed with a sort of unexpected table - something more glam. While the table would be great for a breakfast room or more casual dining space.

These dining room chairs caught my eye for their soft curved lines and pristine condition. They would look great in a more formal and feminine dining space.

I have been looking at these chairs for a while. I love their classic shape and they look like they would be comfortable. If they were mine I would probably lacquer them - maybe white?

If you have been following along you know how much I love a brass animal figurine. These large deer - one is over two feet tall - are classic Hollywood Regency style and would look so cute in a nursery.
