Quilts
Emily Oster
I have always had an interest in quilting. My Nana was a quilter and I can remember watching her work when we went and visited at my grandparent's home in upstate New York. I sort of forgot about this fondness until graduate school when I had a professor (not from the United States) explain how much she loved what she saw as the truly American art form of quilting. I had never thought about quilting as being an art form or uniquely American but the idea has stuck with me. Needless to say, I think I would like to start quilting. I like the idea of carrying on a family tradition, the tactile act of making and that you are creating something that is both beautiful and functional. I am not sure when I would have time or how I would go about it (I don't know how to sew although I do own a sewing machine) but quilting is high on my list of new endeavors to tackle. In the meantime, here are some inspiring quilts for your viewing pleasure.
