I first became familiar with Jessica Helgerson Interior Design or JHID because of this image.

Appearing on Pinterest like crazy, this is a tudor kitchen done right. Moody and impactful yet still bright and modern, this kitchen is a standout amongst the sea of standard white kitchens.

JHID is a firm of eight talented individuals lead by Jessica Helgerson in Portland, Oregon. With a focus on creating "beautiful liveable spaces that meet our (their) clients' aesthetic, functional, and economical goals, while respecting the environment" (JHID), JHID's work has a unique environmental perspective. Before becoming a busy mother of two, Helgerson was also a building activist advocating sustainable living practices as well as historical preservation. She continues this work by rather experimentally living in a 540 square foot cottage on five acres of farmland with her family of four - her kitchen pictured below.

Mostly recently, JHID was featured in the current issue of Lonny for this Tudor home

I love the mix of old and new and think the built-in large, velvet banquette is pretty phenomenal. I also really enjoy the dark moodiness of this Library house.

Rather impressively, JHID also has a body of work that is distinctly more modern like this Saul Zaik house.

JHID's website features many more of their well done projects as well as informative write ups about each so check it out! Have a great weekend everyone!

Bill Ingram is a well recognized architect and designer working out of Birmingham, Alabama. His work is distinctively Southern and classic with a focus on elegant simplicity. Founded in 1995 and since expanding to include two additional designers, Bill Ingram's work has appeared in numerous publications including most recently being named by Veranda magazine as ADAC Southeast Architect of the Year. Personally, I love his finish selections and careful attention to architectural elements such as windows, doors and stairwells.

This personal lake house of Bill Ingram is pretty stunning. It has maybe one of my favorite entries ever - love the mix of wall textures, color and doors - and the kitchen island is a crazy craftsmanship.

Another personal home of Ingram, this 1400 square foot cottage has great texture both inside and out. I love the use of space making rooms cozy yet still open and bright.

This room actually has really low ceilings but you would never know it. A great example of how to mix materials and styles.

Based in San Francisco, Jute Interior Design is known for its "urban earthiness" (Lonny). Started by Ali Davin, the firm blends "unique furnishings and finishes into living spaces without fuss or clutter" (Jute). Their interiors are sculptural, clean and effortlessly blend the antique with the modern. Below are a few favorites.

Also as a follow up to last week's exterior paint color post, I came across this GARDENISTA entry which has most likely convinced me not to paint our house black.
