designer feature: mark cunningham

Emily Oster

Mark Cunningham is a New York City based interior designer serving clients worldwide. With a long tenure as Creative Executive at Ralph Lauren, Cunningham opened his own studio in 2005. Since that time Architectural Digest has named him one of the top designers of 2014, he has had several features in Elle Decor and has been recognized in numerous other publications and blogs. What I love about Cunningham's work is his ability to mix, creating interesting and contrasting spaces that are simultaneously warm and welcoming to be in.

To learn a bit more about Cunningham and to see additional images of his work, check out this interview he did with Mark Sikes.

Have a good weekend everyone!

vintage inspired wallpaper

Emily Oster

I seem to be on a wallpaper kick as I have really been loving the return of vintage inspired patterns. A few standout companies producing some great designs include: Morris & Co., Trustworth Studios and the popular, Farrow and Ball

1. Morris & Co.

William Morris was one of the most recognized designers of the Arts and Crafts movement. Born in 1834 in England, Morris started his design company with a group of friends in 1861. Creating beautifully crafted home furnishings, Morris legacy has been his textile and wallpaper designs. For over 150 years, Morris & Co. has been producing original designs that seem to be making quite the comeback as of recent.  With so many years in business, there are lots of amazing wallpapers to choose from but here are a few of my favorites.

This kitchen done in Pimpernel is pretty amazing.

2. Trustworth Studios

David E. Berman started Trustworth Studios in 1982.  The company reproduces the designs of CFA Voysey and other well known artists and architects of the Arts and Crafts movement. Selling mainly wallpaper, patterns are priced at $7.00/sqft or $210.00 for a single roll.

I have loved the Apothecary's Garden design for quite some time and was quite excited to figure out its origin. Check out these great kid spaces.

3. Farrow and Ball

Farrow and Ball is by far the most well known of these three companies. A favorite among paint enthusiasts, F&B also creates stunning wallpaper. F&B was founded in 1946 in Dorset, England by John Farrow and Richard Ball. In the 1990s, the company went through a series of transitions and milestones that included opening its first showroom, beginning their wallpaper line based off traditional block and trough methods and the expansions of their products overseas. Today, F&B is one of the most recognized paint and wallpaper companies.

etsy lighting round up

Emily Oster

Recently, I have been seeing some really great lighting on Etsy. Shopping Etsy usually means prices are to more competitive, customization easier and you get to work directly with the maker - which I am all about. These can all be real advantages when it comes to lighting as its not always the easiest of purchases. The sellers can help you answer such questions as will the piece give off enough light for the room/desired use, is the scale appropriate, how to install etc.

Below are a few finds.

1. Photonic Studio

I really like the reduced, industrial quality of this studio's lighting. The pieces are simple but still interesting and priced well too!

2. Light and Ladder

Light and Ladder currently only offers one style of light but its a beautiful one. Made from porcelain and rope, I am pretty obsessed with it. Check out their website (or Etsy shop) to see their planters and other home decor items.

3. Worley's Lighting

Making pieces from wood and brass, Worley's Lighting has a nice selection of sconces and lamps that are available in four different wood stains. I could see the top sconce looking so cute in a boys room or in a cabin setting.
