vintage inspired wallpaper

I seem to be on a wallpaper kick as I have really been loving the return of vintage inspired patterns. A few standout companies producing some great designs include: Morris & Co., Trustworth Studios and the popular, Farrow and Ball. 

1. Morris & Co.

William Morris was one of the most recognized designers of the Arts and Crafts movement. Born in 1834 in England, Morris started his design company with a group of friends in 1861. Creating beautifully crafted home furnishings, Morris legacy has been his textile and wallpaper designs. For over 150 years, Morris & Co. has been producing original designs that seem to be making quite the comeback as of recent.  With so many years in business, there are lots of amazing wallpapers to choose from but here are a few of my favorites.

2. Trustworth Studios

David E. Berman started Trustworth Studios in 1982.  The company reproduces the designs of CFA Voysey and other well known artists and architects of the Arts and Crafts movement. Selling mainly wallpaper, patterns are priced at $7.00/sqft or $210.00 for a single roll.

I have loved the Apothecary's Garden design for quite some time and was quite excited to figure out its origin. Check out these great kid spaces.

3. Farrow and Ball

Farrow and Ball is by far the most well known of these three companies. A favorite among paint enthusiasts, F&B also creates stunning wallpaper. F&B was founded in 1946 in Dorset, England by John Farrow and Richard Ball. In the 1990s, the company went through a series of transitions and milestones that included opening its first showroom, beginning their wallpaper line based off traditional block and trough methods and the expansions of their products overseas. Today, F&B is one of the most recognized paint and wallpaper companies.

planning our curb appeal

Spring has definitely sprung here and I am itching to finish my ongoing indoor projects to get outside. I already wrote about how the front yard is much easier for me to get my head around so most of my dreaming has been focused there. Today's current obsessive thoughts are aimed at the general curb appeal of our house. The front door color has to be changed first and foremost (see this post). I am 90% positive that I want to a dark blue/grayish color. Hague Blue by Farrow & Ball is a really pretty dark blue that would probably look almost black in shade.

My concern with the Hague Blue, while being a very true navy, might be too blue for me. Downpipe, also by Farrow & Ball, is another top contender. Its not blue but rather a gray that lends itself a little towards the blueish-greenish tone.  The below images from Hendy Curzon are super helpful as it shows how the color is transformed depending on the season. The furthest left is winter, the middle is spring and the final is summer. 

Farrow & Ball sells mini-sample pints so I think what I will do is just try these two and see what I like. I also might order the color Railings....

The other element I am really looking to add to our front stoop is some pots. Nothing two fancy just two larger scale planters either in zinc or concrete. I really like these front pots with the white bushy flower.

I also want to get a new door knocker as the current one says the name of the old homeowner. I would love to find something vintage and brass. There are, of course, about ten other things I would like to do to add curb appeal to our house but these things seem like a good place to start.
