ski house

Emily Oster

Last week, I posted inspiration images of Hudson's Bay point blanket as I love the pattern and think it would work well as a central design element in the living room of my family's northern Michigan ski house. The room has two focal points which can be a bit tricky - a big fireplace and large windows that look out to a bank of trees. The current layout sort of ignores this fact and is much more oriented towards the fireplace. As part of the new scheme, the plan would be to open the room up by removing the current console and sofa that sit in front of the windows. In their place, I would use two chairs and frame the windows with curtains made from Hudson's Bay point blankets (ala the inspiration image from Country Living). My Mom requested a sectional to replace the sofa and love seat as she thinks it is more cozy. Getting furniture up there as well as one a tight timeline leaves limited options. However, she was able to find a fairly basic tan colored one at a local furniture dealer (the pictured below is from Restoration Hardware and looks very similar to it). I would use sheep skins (obviously) to make the sectional extra cozy and to break up all the tan. Matched with an industrial coffee table and some pops of red, I think the plan could be pretty great.

On another note, today marks the 6 month anniversary (or is it birthday?) of the blog. I wanted to thank everyone for their support and for following along. It has been a lot of fun and I hope to continue to provide interesting, beautiful and thoughtful content for quite some time to come. As always, I would love to hear thoughts and comments. Thanks again readers!

realty round up: park city, utah

Park City is Outside magazine's top pick for the best place to live in 2013. The article highlights the town's friendliness, easy access and five star culture as its main attractions. Located roughly 20 miles south of Salt Lake City, the town is known for being a tourist hot spot with the number of visitors far exceeding the permanent resident population. It is not difficult to understand why tourists flock to the area as each season has something to offer for the outdoor enthusiast whether it be mountain biking, skiing, golfing, hiking or climbing. The town is also home to the Sundance Film Festival, the United States' largest independent film festival as well as the U.S. Ski Team. Some local finds include:
Riverhorse - a romantic, upscale restaurant that has won a plethora of awards
- High West Distillery & Saloon - known for its whiskey - this place looks like the perfect apres skiing place
- Davanza's - family owned and operated since 1979 this is a local favorite for comfort food

House #1: $0 - $250,000

This condo is the smallest home I have featured yet at just 357 square feet. It is located at the base of Park City Mountain Resort and would be ideal for the ski enthusiast who only needs a place to sleep after a long day on the mountain.

House #2: $250,000 - $500,000

This home is listed for sale by owner with very few photos. However, it looks cute from the outside and is walkable to historic Main Street. It also has direct access to a hiking trail.

House #3: $500,000 - $750,000

This charming A-frame has a great location, modern updates and can sleep 11 people!

House #4: $750,000 - $1,000,000

The main feature of this home is its view. In addition, it has convenient location to the Park City Mountain Resort as well as the Historic District. Also a hot tub after a long day of outdoor activities would be pretty amazing.

Have a good friday!
