black walls

Emily Oster

Black walls might sound sort of scary but they actually can be pretty amazing. Like white walls, black walls are classic and go with almost any style. However, they tend to be much more of a statement so they aren't always as easy to incorporate into an overall design. One of the biggest things to keep in mind when considering painting walls black is that there needs to be a lot of natural light in the room. Without light, the room will be dark and the tone will fall flat. Personally, I would love to do a den or cozy family room in black. See below for some inspiration images. Happy hump day!

This week LULU DK launched their online lifestyle shop. Founder and designer of LULU DK, Lulu deKwiatkowski is the creative force behind the company. Her personal style, design sensibilities and paintings inspire what has become a lifestyle brand. Lulu grew up the youngest of six children on the beaches of the Hamptons and the Bahamas. Early on she showed an inclination towards the arts and went on to receive a fine arts degree from Parsons School of Design. After completing her degree, she spent five years of studying trompe l'oeil painting in Paris and traveling the world. Upon returning to New York City in 1998, she launched LULU DK fabrics. The brand has since expanded to include wallpaper, bedding, rugsleather furniture designs and with the opening of their online shop much more. All of the LULU DK's designs are hand produced by Lulu and contain her bold signature style.

Below is a selection of Lulu's creations for your viewing pleasure.

milo baughman

Emily Oster

This week, I have been busy sourcing Milo Baughman chairs for two separate clients. This has been my first opportunity to really research his designs and I have enjoyed learning more about Baughman and his long relationship with the furniture company Thayer Coggin. Here are a few of my favorites chairs and some beautiful examples of how they could be incorporated into a room design.
