artist feature: haptic lab
Emily Oster
A couple of weeks ago in my quilts post, I featured Haptic Lab. Haptic Lab is a Brooklyn based designed studio led by Emily Fischer. Fischer, a graduate of University of Michigan's masters of architecture program, began making quilted maps in school. The quilts were inspired by her mother's loss of sight, a result of complications with glaucoma, as well as her rural upbringing in Wisconsin. The studio uses digital technologies combined with traditional craft techniques to make quilts, kites and furniture. Below are a few of my favorite pieces.
