I have been attempting to find a sconce for our window seat for what feels like months at this point. Remember this post? Well, the long and short of it is that none of those options worked so I have been struggling to reselect. At first, I was adamant about wanting a down light - something cozy for reading - but now I am not so sure. Modern? Traditional? Black? I am really all over the place. 

Currently, at the top of my list of considerations is this light by Stilnovo. I am a big fan of their iconic designs which have been around since 1946. I just love the idea of owning such a timeless and modern piece.

However, I do hesitate with this light because I worry that it might be a touch too modern for the space. Although on the other hand, the sharp juxtaposition could be an amazing detail...The other drawback of this fixture is I can't tell if there is a switch on it. There is no hardwiring to a wall switch so I absolutely need an on/off on the fixture. 

Having sort of a similar look to the Stilnovo is this light by Suri. It has a fixture switch which is great and I like that its styling falls somewhere between modern and a bit industrial. It's downfall is that it is listed as being oil rubbed bronze as opposed to black. If its really dark and the red tones are not super noticeable this isn't a big deal for me but if it lends lighter then its a no go. Also it seems a little large at 10"H x 13"W....

On the complete opposite end of the spectrum, I am also thinking about this traditional sconce by Restoration Hardware.

Its basically the safe and easy choice. I know it has a switch and I could order it today and always return it if I didn't like it. It would be a completely different look than the first two options but it could be nice as well. I am still searching so if any readers have recommendations send them my way!

living room light update + copper sconces

About 3 weeks ago, I blogged about our need for a new living room light fixture. I had found 4 main contenders and was pretty unsure about which one to choose or even if I should keep looking. Well after some more thought and on somewhat of a whim I made a purchase....the Urban Outfitters 4040 Locust Metal Pipe Pendant Light!

It arrived last week and while, it hasn't been installed yet, I think its going to look great. Also, it was marked down even more to just $129!  In person, the copper isn't too shiny and isn't too pink - two of main concerns. And while the fixture is super cheap, it doesn't feel or appear so. 

Before having the electrician out to install it, I need to select a reading sconce to go along with it (don't want to pay for two trips out). I am thinking something with copper touches but not fully copper. Below are my top picks.

1. Industrial Light Electric's - Metal Shade Wall Sconce

If you read this post about lighting choices for our back hallway, then you know I am a fan of Industrial Light Electric's products. What I like most about this sconce is it's finish. Made of raw metal, the sconce isn't black nor is it copper. It falls nicely in the middle with its natural finish making it work well with other metals.

The price of this fixture starts at $109.

2. Cedar & Moss' Tilt Cone

Cedar & Moss is another company I have blogged about before. They make sleek, clean lined fixtures with the tilt sconce being a great example of their product styling. My favorite thing about this option is its shape. It's simple while still distinctly modern. This fixture is available in four finishes and three different arm lengths. If we went with this selection, I would choose the modern black and the 3" arm. 

Pricing starts at $189.

3. Schoolhouse Electric's Princeton Sophomore Sconce

This Schoolhouse Electric sconce is very similar in shape and styling to the Industrial Light Electric option. However, what sets the two apart is their finishes. This one is definitively more black and much more copper. It also is backordered which means its pretty much out of the running.

The price of this sconce starts at $159. 

I am fairly confident I know which one I want to order but I am going to run the options by Jeff and see what he thinks. Hurray for making progress!

industrial barn lights for our back hallway

Last Friday's post sent me on the search for our back hall flushmounts. I looked around at a lot of different styles and am on the fence as to whether I want to just go classic/traditional or do something with a bit more interest. Currently, I am gravitating towards an industrial barn light fixture. 

Two great lighting sources for this particular style are Barn Light Electric and Industrial Light Electric. My favorites from Barn Light Electric are the Wallaby and the Sydney. Both are super customizable with multiple shade dimensions, 20 finish options and different glass options as well.

From Industrial Light Electric, I really like the Industrial Metal Shade Light and Glass Shade Light. Both have only the option to choose white or black which I think I am ok with since I am leaning towards just doing white. These two options are also slightly less expensive than either of the Barn Light options which is always a plus.

The style is so iconic that I am sure there are so many new and vintage options out there but, at least for the moment, I am limiting my selection which will hopefully make my decision a bit easier.
